Bruce McPherson has served as President and CEO of the Alliance for Advancing Nonprofit Health Care since March 2004, soon after the Alliance commenced operations.
As President of the Alliance, and in fact throughout most of his career, Bruce has worked to influence public policies at the national and local levels to improve health care access, quality, efficiency and people's health status, especially through collaborative payment and other relationships among nonprofit health care organizations and other key stakeholders.
Prior to joining the Alliance, Mr. McPherson held the following executive and senior positions:
Following receipt of a Bachelor of Business degree at the University of Michigan, Bruce earned a Master of Hospital Administration degree at the same institution, where he developed a passion for community-based nonprofit health care
- Seven years with the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC (member of the Medstar Health System) as Vice President responsible for strategic planning and marketing, health insurer contracting, outpatient network development, patient and employee satisfaction programs and inpatient case management.
- Fifteen years with the American Hospital Association in Chicago, IL, the last eight of which as Group Vice President responsible for public policy analysis (e.g., position development, testimony preparation, regulatory comments) and oversight of health care data systems, many hospital program areas and constituency sections.
- Six years with the Blue Cross Association in Chicago, IL, the last three of which as Executive Director responsible for health care policy as well as HMO and provider payment consulting services with the individual Blue Cross Plans
- Two years with the Greater Detroit Area Hospital Council, as Associate Director responsible for facilitating collaborative facilities and services planning among hospitals serving a subsection of the eight-county region.
Bruce is married with three grown children, and resides in Annapolis, MD.
